Former Yankees reliever Aroldis Chapman has agreed to a one-year, $3.75 million deal with the Kansas City Royals. After losing his place on the Yankees ALDS roster following an unceremonious exit, the left-handed pitcher became a free agent during the offseason. The agreement between Chapman and the Royals was first reported by MLB.com.

Aroldis Chapman, who has been an All-Star seven times, had a very hard time with the New York Yankees last year. In 43 relief games, he had a 4-4 record, 9 saves, a 4.46 ERA, and a 1.43 WHIP.

Aroldis Chapman’s career with the Yankees came to a dead end after the team didn’t include him in the ALDS roster. The decision was made because he didn’t show up to a required team workout. The pitcher wasn’t sure he would be on the Yankees ALDS roster and failed to attend the mandatory workout session. Manager Aaron Boone acted to rule him out of the ALDS games following his unsatisfactory absence.

During his seven years with the Yankees, Aroldis Chapman had a 24-14 record, 153 saves, and an ERA of 2.94.

In 667 relief appearances with the Reds, Cubs, and Yankees, Aroldis Chapman has a record of 44-35 with 315 saves and a 2.48 earned run average (ERA).

Ex-Yankee Sanchez may travel to the west coast

Ex-Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez may be Los Angeles bound.

“MLB reporter Hector Gomez claims that the Angels are showing a lot of interest in Gary Sanchez.”

Jon Paul Morosi of MLB.com also reported on Friday’s Hot Stove that he has heard the Giants, the Royals, and the Angels are still looking for a catcher. Gary Sanchez is the best player left on the market, and Morosi thinks that each team could be interested in the strong-hitting catcher.

Sanchez has a strong arm and a lot of raw power at the plate. His defense is below average, and he lets too many wild pitches and passed balls through. But in his eight-year career, he has hit 154 home runs and made two All-Star teams. He would be a good No. 2 catcher and part-time designated hitter, especially against some pitchers.

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported last week “The Giants are looking at Gary Sanchez, who improved drastically according to his defensive metrics.”

Sanchez won’t be back with the Minnesota Twins because they already gave Christian Vazquez a three-year, $30 million deal so he can play with former top prospect Ryan Jeffers.

Before the 2022 season, the Yankees sent Sanchez and third baseman Gio Urshela to the Twins in exchange for Josh Donaldson, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and Ben Rortvedt. Sanchez played 128 games for the Twins last year and hit .205 with 16 home runs.
