New York Yankees 6, Los Angeles Dodgers 3

LOS ANGELES — Aaron Judge showed off his skills in a unique way by hitting his 19th home run and making a spectacular catch in the right corner. Jake Bauers, on the other hand, hit two two-run home runs that helped the New York Yankees beat the Los Angeles Dodgers. While that was going on, Gerrit Cole pitched a great game and stayed unbeaten. He went six innings and gave up only four hits before leaving early. In the end, the Yankees won Saturday’s game 6-3.

In a distinctive fashion, Judge unleashed a powerful line drive that found its way into the compact left-field porch during the sixth inning. This impressive display of skill contributed to the Yankees’ recovery after their 8-4 defeat in the series opener of this highly-anticipated interleague matchup.

The AL MVP, Judge, made a remarkable catch in the eighth inning, snatching J.D. Martinez’s line drive despite sprinting into the right field corner and opening the door to Dodger Stadium’s visiting bullpen. This pivotal play potentially prevented a run for the Dodgers, who had Max Muncy on first base.

In a unique turn of events, Oswaldo Cabrera added to the Yankees’ success by launching a solo home run in the ninth inning. This victory marks their fifth win out of the last seven games. Interestingly, Cabrera’s day commenced in Newark, where he embarked on a cross-country flight to join the team’s roster as a replacement for the injured Greg Allen.

Returning to his native Southern California, Cole (7-0) showcased his prowess on the mound. With five strikeouts, two walks, and conceding only a single run from David Peralta’s bloop RBI single, Cole delivered an impressive performance.

The Yankees opted to replace Cole after just 80 pitches due to cramping. This decision proved consequential as four consecutive Dodgers batters reached base in the seventh inning against Peralta and King. Vargas hit an RBI triple and Rojas added a run-scoring single before King retired the next three hitters.

Following an impressive two innings of one-hit relief by King, Clay Holmes took the mound in the ninth inning and secured his sixth save of the season.

Despite Martinez’s impressive 16-game hit streak coming to an end, the Dodgers suffered only their third home loss in 17 games since late April. Additionally, Vargas’ triple stood as the sole extra-base hit for Los Angeles in the game.

The Dodgers set a new attendance record for the year, welcoming 52,975 fans to Chavez Ravine for the second consecutive night. Yankees fans in attendance witnessed impressive displays from two superstars, along with Bauers, a journeyman first baseman and outfielder, who surprised with his power contributions despite spending the previous season in the minors.

The Orange County, California, native had his first game with more than one home run. He hit two home runs against Michael Grove (0-2), one in the second inning and the other in the fourth. The New York team took a commanding 4-1 lead after this amazing show of strength.

Grove returned to the mound for the Dodgers after his stint on the injured list, yielding four runs on four hits with seven strikeouts over five innings. Despite his overall sharp performance, two costly mistakes to Bauers proved decisive for the Yankees.

In a compelling display, Judge’s home run off Shelby Miller in the sixth inning may have only traveled 360 feet, but the velocity behind his line drive was a staggering 113.7 mph. The ball swiftly found its way into the low stands before Peralta had a chance to make a play on it.

UP NEXT

The Yankees will counter with Domingo Germán (3-3, 3.98 ERA) on five days’ rest, as they prepare to face the Dodgers’ fill-in starter Bobby Miller (2-0, 1.64 ERA) in his promising stint with the injury-plagued rotation.
